In 2015, “arguably the biggest upset in rugby union history” happened when Japan defeated South Africa in the World Cup. Currently ranked number 11 in the world and scheduled to host the 2019 World Cup, Japan’s “Brave Blossoms” continues to inspire countless youth in due part thanks to full-back Ayumu Goromaru, who became an overnight sensation.
The “Goromaru Pose” has become iconic because of the Ayumu’s pre-kick ritual. He folds his hands in front of his body in ninja-like form before kicking the rugby ball into play.
The recent cultural significance of all these events is why we chose to create this one-of-a-kind rugby ball replica. Legend has it that the unique shape is taken from its strange historical origin: a pig’s bladder.
Made of 100% authentic cowhide leather, we included a hand stitched portion to mimic the actual oval-shaped ball. The outer surface on both sides features the sturdy toughness of hardened leather. Symmetrical, vertical line patterns have been hand-drawn with non-toxic stains.
